We all know that plastic water bottles are no good for the environment. They pollute our waterways and oceans. But did you know that not all food is created equal? According to the website ” Our World in Data”, Food Production is responsible for nearly 26% of Green House Gas Emissions. That is a horrifying number. One of the sustainable development goals includes Climate Action. While GWEM Magazine is focused more on Gender Equality and human rights, we also have a responsibility to our readers to inform them of other Sustainable Development Goals. Climate Action, while on it’s own is a daunting task to complete by 2030, but if we add Gender Inequality to the mix we are looking at widespread inequality. With wetter places getting wetter , and drier places getting drier, the brunt of climate change will affect those who are already marginalized. Heat waves , drought and more are grim reminders that these events are becoming more frequent. Women will be displaced with their children and their rights cheapened as disasters bring out the worst in politics.

It is our responsibility to help our planet stay healthy. While climate change can’t be stopped, we can , however, slow it down so it doesn’t happen so rapidly.

One way to help our planet is to eat sustainably. This includes picking a variety of in season vegetables. Not only do vegetables have a high source of fol ate, , nutrients and more, they cost us less in resources than farming dairy and meat.

We are also able to reduce our plastic waste by choosing vegetables that do not come prepackaged, as well as choosing sustainable options.

Skipping the restaurant is one of the best ways to remain sustainable. Water usage, transportation costs and electricity from Bars and Restaurants run up huge bills in energy, which is a no no for sustainability.
